Results / Report

Pre-treatment of human skin fragments with Dermud cream prior to UVB irradiation reversed the 20% decrease in mitochondrial activity observed in untreated cells 48 hours after irradiation, leading to a 20% increase under the same conditions. UVB radiation also drastically increased the activity of caspase-3, a marker of apoptosis, by 10 times, but this increase was curbed by 80% if the skin had been previously treated with Dermud.

According to the results of the FRAP and ORAC assays, Dermud treatment significantly increased the antioxidant power of both irradiated and unirradiated skin. It also partially restored the 30% decline in the level of the antioxidant uric acid, that was induced by UVB irradiation.

Finally, Dermud treatment also limited the UVB-induced secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10.
