Dermyn

Dermyn contains Tricutan, a combination of herbal extracts plus the DMAE molecule that is responsible for its skin firming effects. As a result, its use may be able to delay the need for surgical face-lift procedures.

Clinical Studies

Randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind, split-face study on the clinical efficacy of Tricutan on skin firmness.

Products

Dermyn

Trial Design

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, split-face, single-center

Duration

4 weeks of treatment

Subjects

28 women aged 34-67 years old of Fitzpatrick phototypes I, II or III.

Regimen

Subjects applied Dermyn gel on one side of their faces and a placebo gel on the other side twice daily, in the mornings and in the evenings. They continued their daily routines for makeup.

Methods of Assessment

Assessment of skin firmness and elasticity by measuring the speed of propagation of ultrasound shear waves in the skin using a Reviscometer RVM 600.

Clinical evaluations of the left and right side of the face, with estimates of treatment effects along a 7-point scale.

Patient self-assessments of skin appearance.

Side Effects

3 women did not complete the study because of mild irritative contact dermatitis. Several other women reported mild irritation after 3-4 days of treatment, but these subsided and disappeared within a few days.

Conflicts of Interest

None declared.

Effects observed in this study:

There was no discernible effect of either gel on skin firmness 15 minutes after application. However, by the end of the study there was a significant difference between the readings for the side of the face treated with the Dermyn gel and the side of the face treated with the placebo gel. The actively treated side had mean readings that were >20% lower, indicating a firmer, more elastic skin.

The women made a blind, subjective evaluation of the overall effect of the treatment on the two halves of their faces after the treatment; the results showed that the perceived effectiveness of the Dermyn gel was significantly higher than that of the placebo gel. The clinical evaluations echoed this finding, noting that Dermyn produced a significantly better overall effect than its placebo.
