Rhamnose

Introduction

What is rhamnose?

Rhamnose is a naturally occurring sugar that is widely found in both plants and bacteria (R), where it is present in the cell walls (R, R).

Does rhamnose get absorbed?

We are not aware of any studies on the skin penetration of topically applied rhamnose, but as a small molecule with a molecular weight of only 164.07 Daltons, it is probably able to penetrate the skin barrier (R).

What happens after rhamnose is absorbed?

Rhamnose may bind to receptors on fibroblasts and keratinocytes in the skin (R, R).
