Rosehip Oil

Introduction

What is rosehip oil?

Rosehip oil is extracted from the seeds of certain roses, such as the sweetbriar rose and the dog rose (R, R). It is rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid, linolenic acid and oleic acid, and also contains polyphenols, carotenoids, and retinoic acid, making it useful for dermatological and cosmetic applications (R).

Is rosehip oil stable?

Rosehip oil oxidises under UV light, but nanoencapsulation protects it from UV oxidation (R).

Does rosehip oil get absorbed?

Nanoemulsions of rosehip oil can enable it to penetrate human skin to the epidermis or the dermis, depending on the formulation (R).
