Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) is a small protein that is known to modulate many biological processes, including cellular proliferation, the growth of blood vessels, wound healing, and the synthesis of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans (R, R, R, R). It is expressed in the dermis, especially around blood vessels and ducts, but not in the epidermis (R).
