Acetyl Zingerone

Introduction

What is acetyl zingerone?

Acetyl zingerone is a patented skincare ingredient (R) with a structure inspired by those of curcumin and zingerone, which are found in turmeric and ginger respectively (R). It was designed to be highly effective at neutralising key reactive oxygen species induced by exposure to UV radiation (R).

Is acetyl zingerone stable?

Acetyl zingerone is photostable, with 89% remaining after an hour of UV irradiation. This is much better than alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) and curcumin, which are susceptible to degradation under sunlight (R, R). It also works as a stabilising antioxidant when combined with the vitamin C derivative tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, preventing its degradation when exposed to oxidative stress (R).

Does acetyl zingerone get absorbed?

Although we did not find any studies on the topical delivery of acetyl zingerone, it has a molecular weight of only 236.26 Daltons, which suggests that it should be able to penetrate the skin barrier (R).
