Sweet almond oil is extracted from the kernels of the sweet almond, Prunus amygdalus var dulcis. It is valued by the cosmetic industry as an excellent carrier oil, and is often used in skin preparations (R).
Sweet almond oil is rich in fatty acids, particularly oleic acid, linoleic acid and palmitic acid. It is also a major source of vitamin E. 92% of its tocopherol content is α-tocopherol, 7% is β-tocopherol and the rest is δ-tocopherol (R).
